Default Control MP3 from an external remote

Does anyone know of a remote that can control the MP3 on the IPAQ? (like the ones that come with CD playes on the headset you have a small remote that lets you stop/play and move on to the next track and so on)

    thanks

The hardware (PPC) itself does not allow it.
Although it could be possible if someone wrote an alternative MP3 player and configure the answer/mute button to do the basic start/stop etc.
But it is very unlikely it can/will be done.

    Hi Rav,

The above said is only partially true, as Casio has offered a RC headset for their Cassiopeia E-200, which kind of did exactly what you're are asking for...meaning that the PPC H/W actually has nothing to do with, neither does the built-in Media Player...it is though true that "something" should have been done to do the right "connection" between the two. We have tried using the Cassiopeia H/S with a HP IPaq and were not surprised to see it doesn't work...

In case anybody wants to get a reminder to a past decent PPC and it's accessories, the link is here:

    See u around,

If you look at the H/S of the Casio, you'll see that the plug is made of 3 segments of gold (separated by 2 black strips which are here to isolate the 3 gold parts). It means that the in-jack of the Casio is built to receive a special H/S designed for sending signal that is decoded as "play" or "stop" and so on.
Then if you observe a normal H/S without remote control, you'll never see the 3 parts made of gold, just 2 which are Left and Right Channel.
Generally (and tell me if I'm wrong) the third gold part is there to power the remote control on the H/S in order to send back coded signals by pressing buttons (like "play", "stop" and so on).

    So 2 possibilities :
HP designed the jack to receive a 3 gold part H/S and using a RC is possible but we have to write the soft able to decode "play" "stop " signals. We have to forget about it as I think that HP didn't plan for it.

    The second possibility is :
We just have to built a special H/S which has 2 gold part (so as a "normal" headset) and power a little remote on the H/S with some tiny battery (LR06 or CR). Then the circuit of the remote send some specifics signals (like straight "bip" for play "bip bip" for stop, "bip bip bip" for FWD and so on). And we also have to write a modified mp3 player that analyse signals and decode the bips.
This solution is possible if the jack of the iPAQ is also a microphone entry (and i think that's ok for the 54xx and the 55xx, as they were designed to be used as VoIP phones)

In conclusion, to my mind, it's really possible to do a remote control on a H/S for iPAQs... I will think about it and if it's ok, I will post some schematics to build the remote.

If anyone has another idea or could agree with my opinion, please post a reply to make the project go further. (i think many of you want a remote control for the iPAQ....)
