HP iPAQ Pocket PC h5400 Series ROM Update
HP iPAQ Pocket PC h5400 Series ROM Update
version 1.11. XX (6 Jun 03)
... Updates Battery driver to improve battery performance ??
I think this update renders my Power Management (yes) inert.
My battery life, despite power management in my profile and other tweaks is draining much faster.
In other words, like a prior update, the signal is constant and this in effect keeps a constant drain on the battery.
I need to observe this longer, with full management tweaks, but has anyone else found this?

The WIFI update on the HP Web site was incorporated into the latest ROM update, as a result the power management function for WIFI is disabled. But you will no longer get memory erors when turning the WIFI on and off. The power management with the WIFI off is much improved, even leaving BT on all the time I am getting better battery life than before the update.

Could you please tell the audience here WHY you start a new thread on the same issues discussed in a thread ONLY TWO positions below????
To your problem: I've te rom update installed for severaly days now and cannot confirm any of the problems made here or in the other thread despite heavy useage. Neither the battery drains faster nor does the battery meter displays anything wrong.
WiFi is much better and the overall perfomance is really better with me.
So the update is very good in general. There is no fault in the update (at least it seems so) so either it is a configuration problem or a problem resulting from an interdependency between the update and another program (like battery bar or so) or you're simply doing something wrong (I consider that the least likely option).

This was my fear, as my battery life with PM disabled, is about half what it use to be. I need to put in a new battery before noon every day since I updated.

Your answer is simple: The thread in question is very non specific after more than a hundred posts and my question with respect to the battery and power management is intended to be very specific, addressing only one single issue, of the latest update.

Private-Cowboy care to post what programs you may have loaded after doing the update? As you seem to think it maybe an interaction.
I have a CF+ pack and see problems with it and my 5455. It no longer works as it use to. When the battery on the CF+ goes low, it is now power down, just like the PCMCIA + pack.
There may be different versions of the charging hardware on the 545Xs. The Rom seems to be pulled again today.

If the power management is important I would re-install the previous ROM update, or wait as a WIFI update (Firmware or drivers is pending, according to the rumors floating around.)
Some people did not notice the battery drain because they had the power management disabled on the previous ROM versions (either on purpose or not knowing it was disabled.)

Hp seems to be switching pages, or pulling it and reposting it call it what you want. Some times it is there and other times it is gone, but that is the way Hp does things. Personally I don't think it is a problem with Hp's servers.Originally posted by docangle

I have no idea why Hp seems to be doing this, the ROM appears to be the same file. But I think enough people have checked the links, on enough boards to say that something is go on at Hp end.
I know how to hit a reload button, I've reloaded the pages, and for me it is there sometimes, and at others it is gone, and we are back to showing that ? 1.10.XX 17 Apr 03 is the newest.
Hmm I wonder if they get more hits on that page than their server can server does it switch over to a backup server? That perhaps is not updated? I keep hopeing that when they take the page down they are adding a link to the WLAN Firmware update. But so far I'm not seeing it.

Web page?
Their web page has the same problems as their batteries: Can't handle the load.
