Hey let us know when u get it and how it goes! I'm kinda interested in this expansion pack too, but I'm worried about the reception and the power consumption stuff when attached to the iPAQ.
Anyway, do update us when u have it running! Thanks!

The Unit is marketed under Compaq
My Opinion is this Unit looks like the same GSM pack from before... HP held the sale of this Item until the ROM update..
It has its own battery... and will stay on when the host is turned off. You can set your PPC so it will wake up when a call is recieved.
The Nice thing is I tried a Cingular SIM card, and it worked!!
So I guess its not lock to an AT&T line.
now have to wait until GPRS service kicks in...

Headset
Does the unit work off a headset? I assume that there is another plug, or if there a mic slot inside the headphone jack. I am currently using the AT&T GSM service. I could sell me phone/hardware and get the sleeve. hmmm.
Anyone make a version that will slide in a CF slot? Modem/GPRS in CF format? I am thinking aboput moving to a 22xx when they come out, and a CF GPRS unit would be SWEET with that small 22xx.
Thanks,

So basically you can have your iPAQ off and still receive calls (and when a call comes in, your iPAQ turns on)? Also, how long does the external battery last for the GSM/GPRS sleeve?
Great to hear that the GSM/GPRS expansion pack is sim unlocked! How much did you get it for again?

Yep was working on that too. because on the product liteture suggest running RUU for 19xx or 39xx serious, to enable wake on ring. I guess since 54xx just recieve a update so no it should have the feature build-in.
Maybe a call to the HP tech support...
I Haven't spend too many time with this combo yet. The GSM pack displace the screen protector. So it stays in my briefcase for occasional on-the-go mail grabbing duty. It has yet to replace my standard cell phone. (BTW is the form factor for the GSM pack similar to a standard CF pack? Vaja have a case for 54xx+CF pack. if that don't work.. I would have to "stick" with velcro + universal case
)
Other note Original dream of using bluetooth seem to have faded away. I haven't done testing with an actual headset but the GSM pack use another set of speaker and mic. independent of the PPC. maybe some third party developer can salvage this feature.Palm: UX-50, Palm III, Palm m505
