Default Holy crap! Bluetooth Manager 1.1 Acting Weird!!

I just installed the Bluetooth 1.1 from Compaq's site, installed it, soft reset. Tried to click on the Bluetooth icon in the lower right, and it only has one option which is greyed out anyway "Remove this device". None of the old list that used to be there, only the one item. I try to double click the icon. Nothing happens. I then manually run the Bluetooth Manager and it pops up with a dialog which says "Bluetooth functionality turned off. Application cannot be opened." And closes down. I tried soft-reseting a number of times. Nothing.

So, where did my Bluetooth go????? It's functionally gone. I guess I'll try to uninstall and see if I can at least get the old functionality back.

Default HELP!!!! Bluetooth gone, and I can't get it back!!!

I uninstalled the 1.1 Bluetooth Manager. Then there is just no Bluetooth there, not the old version, nothing. I try to download the drivers off the support site 1.0.12, but apparently that's just a patch which refuses to install without a Bluetooth Manager already being installed. How do I get the old Bluetooth back?

Or get the new one to work? Maybe it's just refusing to start because I had my radio turned "off" when I installed the new Bluetooth Manager (seems ridiculous, but... I don't know why else this would happen).

Just reinstall the new version again. Chances are your BlueTooth radio was on the first time. What what it says, and do a soft reset before and after. It may want to uninstall before it will install. Make sure you dont have a sleeve on your iPaq, and remove any SD card just to be safe.

    Default no dice

no, i've tried, i've tried re-installing 4+ times, and always the same thing. no icon any more in the lower right. when i manually find/run the manager i get the same "Bluetooth functionality turned off" error. And when i manually run the thing for the icon on the today page, it only has the one option greyed out for "removing this device".

Make sure you are reinstalling by reexecuting the installer, not by just checking the BT Manager in Activesync's Add/Remove Programs dialog. The later doesn't work, but former does.

When I first tried installing this is what I got to. As the BlueTooth Manager was worthless at this point I went to |Start | Settings | System | Remove Programs | and removed the Manager |

On your PC go to c:\compaq\ and delete SP21032 folder

I removed my SD card and my CF sleeve, giving me just the basic 3870 did a soft reset.

This gave me a 3870 with the BlueTooth led off, I connected it to my PC and then ran the SP21032.exe program again. On about the thrird screen it told me it was going to remove the update and install my old files again. You don't have any real choice here, if you don't agreaa to this the program just ends. So I agreed, undocked my 3870 again, uninstalled the BlueTooth Manager. Did another Soft reset. And ran SP21032.exe again, this time it worked. The BlueTooth radio needs to be off, and the 3870 can't have any type of sleeve attached. Also it seems to work better with out a "SD" card inserted.

Try it again, you can get it working.

One thing thats going on is the install program is making some registry settings that enable the Bluetooth manager. Just reinstalling from Activesync isn't installing those registry settings. I think during the installation the old settings are removed, then if the install dies for any reason (like an SD card inserted) your BT is hosed until you get the registry settings done again.
