    Talking

I am trembling with excitment! I just ordered Ricochet with the Sierra Wireless Aircard 400. Should come in by April 5th (but that's okay because between now and then I'll be in France and won't miss it).

But I am feeling a little sick also, I prepaid and bought the AirCard for a total of $1149. Yikes! At least I can return it in 30 days if I get buyer remorse...

Oh..to follow up to my own topic...anyone have any best practices or lessons learned for installing Ricochet, the AirCard etc.??

Do you think it is worth the hefty price tag vs. the cheaper 19.2 access???

    Thanks!

    Cool

The AirCard 400 is a dead snap to install. No headacheds. Once it is installed, just enter your account information in the driver's dialog, and you are set to go.

The speed is awesome. I can't imagine to going back to 19kbps or slower!

    Absolutely no regrets so far.

It's great to use with my laptop, as well as my iPAQ, which is an added bonus. I'm very glad I went this route, rather than DSL -- much more flexible.

    Question

Do you know if you can be on the suburbs of the city that it is in and still use it, because I live 26 miles out side of a city that has it and was curious if it would work that far away.

Ok, I will be the wet blanket... aren't you concerned that Ricochet may go belly up when you prepaid for service? Did you know that they announced layoffs recently? Go to any financial site and look them (metricom) up. I would get Ricochet in a second if I wasn't concerned about getting screwed. Good luck, I hope they survive, I want to get it too.

    Thumbs up

Have you checked the health of the DSL providers lately? They aren't in much better shape.

Anyway, it seems like the best way to make sure they stick around is to to support them. Their technology is 6 to 10 times faster than the competition, for at least the next year. It's worth the gamble, for me at least, to get that kind of speed NOW.

I love my Ricochet connection and feel that it is worth the extra cost. When I first got my modem, my area was still at 28.8 speed, and it drove me crazy!I could not even imagine what a 14.4 or less connection must be like. Now everything is upgraded and its awesome! I have transferred money in my bank account, checked credit card statements, and made a webpage and FTP'd it to my website, all wirelessly! I am an HTML novice for the most part, but I would love to do an iPAQ webpage using nothing put the iPAQ, Stowaway and the Aircard.

rdesi001, I'd like to thank you for prepaying... I'm coming to rely on Ricochet but I don't think I could sneak that past accounting . Service here in Phoenix is great. I was way out in Mesa over the weekend and my wife was trying to find a shop that had closed and moved. I had to stick the iPaq out the car window and hold it as high as I could and still type... but I got the goods. It may be nearly a week before she complains again about me paying too much attention to my iPaq .

Good grief! Hope you have iPAQ insurance!
BTW, I was doing a little testing, and was surfing at a pretty good speed whilst going 60MPH - as a passenger with the iPAQ in the car
