Default I think you got a better picture than

I did. Strange thing is, if you look at the screen upside down, it does not bother much . . . I agree, it is much worse in person because the yellow coloration is much brighter . . .

sounds like HP is having screen problem if it doesn't show white on normal viewing angle. so far we have heard anything from white under normal viewing angle, stright up, and upside down.

    filter alignment problem?

to compare with h1910, it will only show true white at about 90-45 degree angle, anything lower, it's will turn slightly yellow until suddenly very yellow at 20 degree angle. The screen is really not that useable beyond 120 degree angle.

Vispi, I think the issue is constant.. Its when the top of the device is tilted away from you.. which is how most people hold them I would assume, and how you look at it when its on a desk.. There is a "perfect" angle in which its white.. but that angle is soo narrow, no margin of error, honestly, its maybe within 3 degrees, no room for error, or the screen goes to crap again.. I cant even play an emulator well, since pressing buttons moves the screen and all the colors shift on me.. really annoying.

well from the picture it's definitely yellow. but is random defect or is it a design flaw. My guess will be random defect, since the reports of viewing angle are different.

Default That is what I am afraid

that it is NOT a random defect, if it is random, I believe HP will replace any defective device with honor. If it is NOT random, but a design issue or when the screen was tested before they chose it, they did it with robots who has steady "hands" and precision vision -- narrow band of view angle. I can not believe HP engineers did not notice this colorization during R&D

I agree, there is a pivoting point where when you tilt it slightly (a few degrees) outward at the top, coloration comes in drastically . . . when I said viewing it upside down, I meant that way, it fits people's behavior to tilt top outward . . . but it does not mean it is not there, that would be much bearable . . .

So I hope this is a small batch off the production line and I truely believe HP will replace it if they recognize it as defects . . . but if they don't . . . hmmmmmm, what then? Are we stuck with this yellowish screen?

if it is not random, everybody would spot the yellowness in the exact same angle.

but instead we have some who say their screen is fine, some got really yellow, some reporting various degree of yelowness from at different angles.

The recent post of a 1945 with a yellow screen viewed head on doesn't look ANYTHING like the 1945 I have. The unit I have has a WHITE screen with a "warm" tone to it (versus a "cool" tone, think like your mointor test settings) and it will turn yellow like the photo BUT ONLY if viewed from the side or bottom and a pretty good angle. There is something weird about that unit in the photo.

I will post pics late tonight.

For me the amount of yellowing is not so dramatic as too make this a non purchase. In fact after seeing the yellow in person yesterday, and comparing it to a 2215 next to it, I went ahead and ordered one this morning. My feeling is that despite wishing this screen didn't suffer from a relatively narrow viewing angle (imposed by the yellowing of the screen) I much prefer the contrast and color saturation of the 1945 to the 2215. My old pda, an e310, has a similar phenomenon only it appears as a darkening of the screen at angle rather than a yellow tinting.

Again, I basically feel that for the 'essential' ( ) things such as SNES and DIVX files I can keep in the 'white band' and for the other stuff it's really not that important to me whether it's white or a little yellow...

    Just my pennies...

    Regards,

    Jael

PS. My e-310 just got demoted to TV-Remote!
