Re: iPhone 4 is no longer providing audible notification of email
Occasionally that switch will get flipped when my iPhone has been in and out of a jeans pocket a few times. I think it's happened to me twice. Everyone has a doofus moment sometime. ;o)

Re: iPhone 4 is no longer providing audible notification of email
If it was the ringer/silent switch, why did you hear ringing for phone calls?

Re: iPhone 4 is no longer providing audible notification of email
My guess is that two things were in play. First, the resets finally fixed whatever was wrong; the switch was still turned ON. Later, finding the switch accidentally turned off was another culprit, in addition to the original software glitch. Sometimes bad things just line up in a row. It makes it hard to diagnose, kind of like when someone tries to "fix" their computer by doing a lot of different things but only succeeds in making it worse; turning OFF/reboot fixes an assortment of ills.

Funny, when I started reading this thread, I was about to say, "This is probably a stupid question, but did you check the silencer switch?"
