I've never seen anything like that even when searching the Internet. It must be Guam's air.

Its very humid here but not as humid as some southern states in the US.

I'm taking a close eye on the back of my Asus Transformer Prime. Hopefully its not going to tarnish.

It's more than humidity. I suspect salt air might be worse. That's the only explanation that seems to make sense, since it's such an extremely rare occurrence. I know people who live in seaside environments that have pristine iPhones/Touches

Saltwater vapor and salt spray are indeed incredibly corrosive to most things. Take most types of metal near the shoreline for any period of time, and you can pretty much watch them develop a spray of rust dots. It's why most piers these days are still made out of wood and concrete rather than steel.

I live near the sea but there is some walking distance between me and the shore. Considering I stay in an aircondition environment all the time I don't think salty air is the reason. A bigger factor would be the sweat in the pants.

I guess you will have to give your device for refurbishing if you are very particular about having a newish look on your phone. A refurbished cover can give you the advantage of a new phone and you do not have to spend much or lose the touch of your old phone.
