    Default Amazed with Apple

I called Apple because my iPad would not turn on. I expected to send it in and end up buying a new one. It took about twenty seconds for the tech to tell me how to turn it back on....push these two buttons at the same time.
    Thanks Apple!

    Welcome to Brighthand, HorseDoc.

What you described (holding down the Power button and the Home button at the same time, releasing both only when you see the apple appear on the dark screen) is the equivalent of a soft reset on a handheld device or restarting your computer. Glad that it worked for you.
Experience is what you get when you thought you were getting something else.

Resetting the device would resole a majority of the problems, just in case you run into some firmware related issues and iTunes doesn't detect the device, with he USB cable connected, restart it by holding the Home and the Power button for 10 seconds. After 10 seconds release the power button and continue to hold the Home button for another 5 seconds, now iTunes will pop a message saying that the device has been detected in recovery mode. You can go ahead and restore it to factory settings now.

I don't know, maybe it will be a helpful tip in the future

I don't recommend recovery mode for run of the mill problems because it requires you to put an OS back on the device to get it running again. This mode, often called DFU mode is often used to get a device jailbroken or un-jailbroken (is that a word?).

Agreed, r0k. I debated whether to remove that post before it could possibly cause harm.

Oops, I didn't intend to harm or brick anybody's device. I've had corrupt firmware issues where the device wouldn't start or be detected under os x. So, I thought posting about the device firmware update mode would be helpful.
