iPhone4 and stand alone printers
My daughter has an iPhone 4 and wants to print directly to a stand alone printer such as Canon's Selphy CP800. Does anyone have any idea how this can be achieved with the CP800. If not, are there any other stand alone printers which would work with the iPhone 4?

Re: iPhone4 and stand alone printers
Welcome to Brighthand, banni15.

I've been following a thread involving this same topic at another forum. The thread is located here and involves using AirPrint. It's moderately complicated because there are several steps involved. Please read thru the entire thread because there have been varying degrees of success and several different work-around methods utilized. I gave it a try and wasn't successful but my printer is a Lexmark and I haven't seen it listed as being a likely candidate. I hope you'll have better luck.
Please post your results if successful. It's always good to hear when something works out; likewise, please don't be discouraged should it fall short.

Re: iPhone4 and stand alone printers
Actually, this is no help to how it works, but here's how mine works. My desktop mac is connected via USB to an older HP 500 multifunction printer. (not wifi enabled). My desktop is running snow leopard. My macbook air, is running Lion. My air, can print wirelessly to my printer, because its connected to my desktop. My iphone can NOT print to my printer, as the desktop is on Snow Leopard. Now.....get this. IF, my desktop is on, AND my Macbook air is on, my iPhone CAN print to the printer. I believe thats because its connecting via my Macbook Air. I have made no adjustments, it just found the printer, and I selected it. I have no idea why it works.

Re: iPhone4 and stand alone printers
Just to pop up this thread again, and offer a solution. I just tried Printopia, by Ecamm networks. If you use a mac, and you have an iPhone, you just HAVE to try it. It is also a wonderful way to transfer files from an iPhone to a Mac.
They have a demo version, and after trying it for about 5 minutes, I bought the licensed version. What a cool piece of software. Prints to ANY printer, not just AirPrint printers.nuvi 765t, iPhone 5, Still waiting on BB10 phones to review. Primarily Mac focused, only using my PC's when dragged kicking and screaming.

Re: iPhone4 and stand alone printers
Here's another vote for Printopia. It works fine and all of our iOS iThings can print to any of the network printers my Macbook sees.

Re: iPhone4 and stand alone printers
If buying another printer is an option, wouldn't the new-ish HP printers that print using dedicated e-mail addresses for each individual printer. You just email the file to the printer and it comes out.

Re: iPhone4 and stand alone printers
This is just a simple app, to print on whatever printer you have at home or work. Your mac and the iPhone or iPad must be on the same network as your mac.

HP has an iPhone app for printing directly to ePrint enabled printers. Although I wouldn't recommend HP printers, they seem to be on the ball with iPhone printing.
