YouTube Restricted Syndication
I just upgraded my iPod Touch to 3.0, which may or may not be relevant to the following.
One of the improvements with the upgrade is the ability for the YouTube app to link to your account for subscriptions, etc. Very important to me, to be able to keep up with the posted videos of my grandchildren! I can easily set up the subscriptions, but when I try to watch the videos, I get a message that syndication has been restricted by the owner of the video. My son--the owner--is not quite sure what that's all about or what to do about it.

Re: YouTube Restricted Syndication
DTM, check at iTunes for the app and see if others have reported it as broken. I've got a couple of apps that need a fix (one is waiting for approval.) The only way that you know if you have one is when it misbehaves. I've checked mine at iTunes & others have complaints. eReader is stuck on one book with no other library access and WifiTrak can't gain access (it's awaiting approval for the updated version.)
My son just used my Touch to check his subscriptions and got the same message. He'd been viewing on his PC and logged OFF to help me out. App appears to be broken. iTunes would verify by user complaints.
EDIT: Can't find a way to check the YouTube app itself. Will read later this evening at Mac Forums to see if others have same problem. We can't be the only ones.

Re: YouTube Restricted Syndication
I found a thread in the Mac forums that indicates this is not an issue with the YouTube app on the iThing. Rather, it appears to be a bug in YouTube itself.
When the owner of a video restricts syndication, it has the added effect of preventing that video from being viewed on mobile devices. I have to believe that this is unintentional, because, as I understand it, the purpose of restricting syndication is to prevent other people from embedding the videos in their websites. (Sorry, you won't be able to do that with my grandkids' videos.) When the improved YouTube app was applied to my Touch, it was much easier for me to locate the videos and therefore much easier for me to run up against the restriction. Thus, the change didn't cause the problem, it just exposed it.
Like all good theories, this one is subject to change at a moment's notice.
