Re: Reviews of iPhone/iPod Touch Apps
Application: TouchType
Price: Free
Requirements:
Grade: B
This allows you to type out an email in landscape mode. You open up the app. Type in you message. Send the message to the email app. Select a Contact. Your message is put in the body of the email. Hit Send. If you have BIG hand like me this make typing out longer emails MUCH easier.
Only reason I gave it a B was that you can not Replay to an email with this app. I don't think.

Application: Box
Price: Free
Requirements: Box.net account
Grade: A-
If you are a Box.net user, you need this. Allows you acces all of your files in your Box.net account. Only reason I gave it an A- is that you can not take advantage of Box.net's online document edit features. (Snap!)

Re: Reviews of iPhone/iPod Touch Apps
Application: SMS Touch
Price:$4.99
Requirements: None
Grade B-
This acts the same way as TouchType does except fro SMS. It puts the SMS in Landscape mode for easier typing. It also allows you to send the SMS thru your email saving you on SMS fees. I gave it a B- because like TouchType you can not reply to an SMS with it. You would have to start a new message and you would lose the threaded text feature.

Re: Reviews of iPhone/iPod Touch Apps
Application: HP iPrint
Price: Free
Grade: A-
it does what it says prints via a network to network inkjet printers not laserjets, I dinged it because it only has one choice for prints 4x6 inches, 10x15 metric. The interface is uncluttered and tools are transparent on top of the picture. Oh, no configuration app finds and displays all printers on the network even those that it won't print too.iPhone 4, iPhone 3G, Plantronics 320, Mac OS 10.6.3 on a 15" MacBook Pro, Airport LAN & WiFi, att.net, PDA path: Palm i705 (2004 - son)=> Palm Tungsten TX (4/06 - sold) => Nokia 6682 (7/06 - 7/08) => iPhone 3G (7/08 - 7/10 now used by son) => iPhone 4 (7/10 - current w/ work SIM) & Nokia (?)(7/10 - current w/ home SIM)

Re: Reviews of iPhone/iPod Touch Apps
Application: Fring
Price: Free
Grade: A
This may not be news but I thought I would put it up anyway. Fring is an all-in-one IM app. SKYPE, Gtalk, and others. Puts all of them in one place. I just found this out tonight. You can actually use your iPhone WiFi to place Voip calls through Skype. Actually tested out on my home wireless network with 3G turned off. This would be great for traveling overseas or any where were cell phone coverage is minimal but WiFi can be found.
No need for expensive Sim Cards.

Re: Reviews of iPhone/iPod Touch Apps
Application: Google App
Price: Free
Grade: A+
Yeah, yeah. I know this has been done almost to death, but this past week, its utility has really shined for me and mine. First, Christmas Eve, my step-nothing-in-law, who is like a long lost brother to me nevertheless, was using it to look up stuff on his 3G. Once he wanted some info on a German who had religious objections to Hitler and the Nazis (I can't remember his name. Maybe you might because you're smarter than me!). He spoke the name and POW! There it was.
Likewise, earlier this week I wanted the phone number of a funeral home in southwestern PA. I launched the app and spoke the name: Yoskovich Funeral Home. POW! Right on top. Frankly, I was stunned. I thought I would have to type that name.
And while I'm at it, I'd like to put my $0.02 in for the HP printing app. Some folks say it doesn't do, some say it does do. But for me, it do. And well. I have 2 HP printers (A PS A620 and a DJ F380) shared through an iMac on an Airport network. It found them both and printed a sweet picture of my little girl thru the photosmart right away.
