    Default iPod Repair Help

    Folks,
I know this is off topic but you all have great opinions and ideas!
I want to send in my wifes 30G IPod to someone to look at and fix for a reasonable price. There is no audio through the headphones. I have seen some offers on EBay for these repairs.
Mods if you need to move this msg, of course.
    Thanks.

I'm sure you have done this, but just in case (and forgive me)... did you try a different pair of headphones.

Ditto that. I tend to have to replace ear buds once a year.

If it's not the ear phones, I've had good experiences with the Genius bar at the Apple store, if you have one near you. You can make appointments online. Back when the Nano was new, there were only 4 models. 2 gig in black or white & 4 gig in black or white. They kept some on hand & I took my broken one in & walked out with a working one. Then when the 2nd gen Nanos were out, they didn't have a replacement for my pink one on hand but it came in the next day. These were both under warranty or extended warranty, so I don't know how reasonable (or not) the repairs are when not under warranty.

    Good luck.

yeah i have a bad habit of stretching the cable/wire for some reason.

fyi, when replacing there are two types with phone/music toggle and without.

This is an error that Apple will repair at no cost, even out of warranty. It is a defective mainboard. Give you iPod a squeeze under the click wheel, and you should hear a crackle. If you do, call Apple tech support and ask to talk to a customer care representative. They will have you pinch the iPod, and ask if you hear a crackle. They will be satisfied and send you an all-expenses-paid Fedex returns box and will shortly send you a refurbished iPod.

It's a design flaw, and really common, so don't feel strange about pushing this. Apple screwed up.
