At this point I haven't heard anything about the iPhone being able to sync with Outlook. I consider this one of the biggest limitations of Apple's new smartphone platform.

That said, it's possible Outlook support will be available later But that's just a guess.

This from a "Get Ready iPhone is Coming June 29th" email, new@InsideApple.Apple.com
Making a call with iPhone is as simple as tapping a name. You won't need to re-enter all your contacts because iPhone syncs with the address book you already use on your computer—Address Book or Entourage on a Mac, or Outlook or Outlook Express on a PC. If you keep your contacts on the web using Yahoo! Address Book, iPhone can sync with them, too. To get ready for iPhone, organize your contacts in one of these applications and make sure they're up to date with the latest phone numbers and email addresses. If you don't have contacts on your computer, don't worry. You can still enter them directly into iPhone.

Using its built-in calendar, iPhone lets you check your appointments with the flick of a finger. iPhone uses iTunes to sync with the calendar application you already use on your computer—iCal or Entourage on the Mac, or Outlook on a PC—just like it does with your contacts. If you don't already use one of these applications to manage your appointments, now is a great time to start, so you'll be ready to sync when your iPhone arrives. If you choose not to use a calendar program, that's OK. You'll be able to enter appointments directly into the iPhone calendar.

iPhone is the first phone to come with a desktop-class email application. So now your phone can display rich HTML email with graphics and photos alongside the text. iPhone will even fetch your latest email every time you open the application and automatically retrieve your email on a set schedule, just like a computer does. iPhone works with the most popular email systems—including Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, AOL, and .Mac Mail. If you're not already using one of these services, now would be a great time to get an account. iTunes will make email setup on iPhone a breeze by automatically syncing the settings from email accounts stored in Mail on a Mac or Outlook on a PC. Don't worry if you're not on one of these email services; iPhone also works with almost any industry-standard POP3 and IMAP email system
Italics are mine. So, I think the answer is Yes Compatible with Outlook and Sync services!

I'd personally be a little surprised if iJobs invests in so much technological groundwork, then passes up entire new software markets, leaving the void to be filled by MSGates.

My question is... since you need an iTunes account (have one at home on the mac) and the "get ready" doc says it will sync with outlook... (have outlook at work using and exchange account) will you need iTunes on the work machine in order to pull all the info out of outlook?

Currently I am using a Treo 750 which is flawless with the exchange account and push email. I can give up the push email, but I really need the contacts and calander to be sync'd even if it is via a hard connection at the work pc. The real problem is that work forbids iTunes on the work machines.

    hmmmmmm

Wow, sorry to hear work forbids iTunes, (... too many have been spending worktime watching YouTube, eh?).

You can work around that bottleneck a little with iSync but it's not the same. Likewise, you may be simply able to bluetooth from your 750 to the iPhone (assuming you're not going to sell it) the smartphone stuff will still work even if the service is disconnected. I did this with my old t616 to the TX, but couldn't do the whole database at once from my Nokia to the TX, had to do one contact at a time. I'm sure others will come along with other solutions too.

maybe there is a way to disable iTunes internet features and simply use the sync features, hmmm? I do that at home with my son's computer in his room, I have disabled internet with a third party solution, however, he can use the kitchen computer, so iTunes is basically a music player on his room computer. I never tried to search iTunes itself for disabling features, anyone?
