    I don't know if the original author is still looking, but I refurbish IIIXE's on a regular basis (among others) and I use the keyspan USA-19HS serial to usb adapter. It works perfect. I think you would need to order it online though and get it shipped to you as it is not likely to be available retail. The IIIxe is a true tank - so if it meets your needs I wouldn't be too fast to switch. Not too shabby as a Ebook reader also.

    thank you all for your help. however at the beginning of February i decided to join the 21st century and purchased an iPod Touch.

    it does everything my trusty Palm Pilot does (contacts, appointments, notepad) while synching to my Outlook.

    I still like to pretend it's 1984. Although it's funny how things have turned around with little brother becoming big brother .. meaning Apple.
