I don't know if the original author is still looking, but I refurbish IIIXE's on a regular basis (among others) and I use the keyspan USA-19HS serial to usb adapter. It works perfect. I think you would need to order it online though and get it shipped to you as it is not likely to be available retail. The IIIxe is a true tank - so if it meets your needs I wouldn't be too fast to switch. Not too shabby as a Ebook reader also.

thank you all for your help. however at the beginning of February i decided to join the 21st century and purchased an iPod Touch.
it does everything my trusty Palm Pilot does (contacts, appointments, notepad) while synching to my Outlook.the first sacrifice of survival is conscience
