Restore of back-up files

I have had to do a hard reset of my IIIc to get the on/off/on/off problem fixed (see earlier post). As a novice user, this may sound like a dumb question, but is there any way I can restore the programs, etc. I had on the unit prior to my hard reset? I copied the entire "Palm" file to a safe location. The hard reset seems to have fixed the problem, but I am missing an icon set and was hoping to avoid having to rebuild the entire set again.

Good news for you. Even though you had to do a hard reset, you can still get the information back. First off, move the Palm folder BACK to it's original location; otherwise you're going to have two Palm folders. COPY it to a safe location in case something happens. Then do the following.

1. Put your Palm into the cradle and go to the Hotsync manager

2. Right click on the icon to bring up a menu and go to "Custom"

3. Under each conduit, hit the "Change" button and make sure the box "Desktop to handheld" is checked on each conduit on the list. This will copy ALL the info from the desktop to your Palm.

As for the programs that were on your Palm, this is why the C:/Palm creates a backup folder. Make sure your Palm folder is back where it belongs. Once you Hotsync, all your programs should automatically reload from the backup folder. Hope this helps. Let me know if you need any more assistance.

If you only copied the folder originally and did a restore but are just missing a file or two, look in the copy of the c:\Palm\<your_username>\Backup folder.
