Angry Unit died - won't reset or charge - help!

    Hi there,

I have a 3 yr old trusty i705. Just moved house and the cradle stopped charging, but managed a hotsync. Tried the travel charger, still no luck. Battery finally gave out last week. I have tried a soft and a hard reset with no luck. Any last suggestions before I try and get it repaired??

    thanks,
    Adrian.

    Hello, welcome to Brighthand.

Have you tried doing a reset while its charging? Just push the reset button while its charging and leave it charging for at least 3 hrs.

Thanks - it won't charge (light stays off) and now the screen remains blank when attempting a hard or soft reset. Is it actually charging at all if the green light remains off??

No...most likey it wont charge. Sorry, I guess that you gonna have to take it for repairs. Btw, if the repair cost over $100, dont repair.

Thanks - If I purchase new, would any Palm device take my data (and softwaresuch as SplashID) from the Palm Desktop, or can you recommend a particular model (don't need the palmnet/wireless option).
    thanks again,
    Adrian.

Some softwares are required to upgrade because of the new OS. But I would think that you are fine.

Just in case, before you getting your new device, BACKUP your Palm stuffs.

    Welcome to Brighthand Adrian.

Instructions for upgrading are available at palm.com, and when precisely followed, upgrades are not problematic. You can find user-reported software compatibility lists for the T|5, Treo 650 (which I use for my E2 as it's the closest) and LifeDrive here. There's also a thread or two on the same subject floating around Brighthand. Good luck.
