It's amazing what the luck of the draw it is when you purchase the latest technological device. I haven't had a problem with my i705 since I got it back in February. I ordered it through the Palm Store.
The only problems I run into are software problems, not hardware. Software problems that are add-ons, not what came with the device.
I do think it is the coolest handheld around!

screen
Hi, I finally did have problems with my i705 screen. It just stopped responding. I called Palm and they took about 2 weeks to send a replacement. During that time, mine came back to life, which was good because the replacement Palm that finally arrived was broken as well. I sent it back. My Palm died again (no screen response) within 2 weeks. Palm sent a replacement this time within 2 days and it arrived and was working fine.
HOWEVER, I had to go on line to register it which they promised me they had arranged in advance and had credited me 1 month service for my troubles. Instead I had to re-register with my credit card and after being reassured that I wouldn't be charged the $9.99 acctivitation fee because Palm would recognize my existing user name, I WAS charged and for another month's service. I called Palm again and was told, "well I can credit your card, but it takes 10 weeks to show up so instead I'll credit your Palm account and you'll see the credit next month.
This is AWFUL service -- AND I'm a loyal Palm owner from the very first Palm Pilot. I am extremely dissapointed and hope that Palm monitors these chat boards. In the meantime, the new Palm is working fine ...... so far.Risa
Happy owner of a Treo 755p on Verizon network (wow, big difference from AT&T! Verizon rocks!) and owner of nearly every Palm since the very first Palm Pilot!

Possible Cause...
I also encountered what appeared to be hardware-related digitizer problems with an i705 unit purchased last spring. When I started thinking about the problem, I realized that it showed up at the same time I started using SilverScreen.
Like many launcher programs, SS acts like a hack and traps hardware interrupts to look for activity it wants to process before the system does. Once I removed SS, the digitizer problems disappeared.
This isn't to say that digitizer hardware problems don't exist, but you may want to make sure that it isn't a piece of third-party software that has inserted itself in the digitizer's processing path and is causing unexpected interference.
