I just found this on Lifehacker and thought I'd post it here. I do pay for my movies (or get them through offers from Redbox), but I admit to copying them and cutting out the crap.

HAHAHAHA!!! That's hilarious, Jig, and would be even more-so if it weren't so sadly true...

Heh. The only problem I see is that the graphic should have the FBI warning in 12 languages and pretend you have the reading speed of a 4 year old (or 84 year old) in each language. It should also have more cussing in the captions. Otherwise, lifehacker did good.

Great stuff Jig! And so true. (Although I don't think I've come across unstoppable trailers. FBI warnings and Studio logos, yes.) Usually, I can hit my 'root menu' key and go to the root menu. Of course they do have anti-piracy warnings both before the menu and before the movie itself.

Unfortunately, I've given up on the majority voting with their 'feet' (wallets). All the more reason we need to start teaching basic economics much earlier in schools . If we did, more people wouldn't expect 'something for nothing,' and learn that a deal that sounds too good to be true, is about 99% of the time.

I also think the ongoing battle to include more 'copy protection' is interfering with my DVD players (much like some newer CD's that won't play in older CD players).

It needs an unskippable "commentary and blah doesn't not necessarily reflect the views of blah" screen.

Guess who finally bought his TP2 Hello old friends.

Right, back to the TWiT.tv video issues, where I have two problems.

In the standard video player, the large video is too large and the 'picture' is blocky and frame rate too low. The small video plays lovely, but there's no sound. I'd like to use the Small version, so how do I get sound?

    Using TCPMP from here:

    Any suggestions please?

    Thanks.

There is a setting I used in TCPMP that was helpful, but I don't recall exactly what it was and I don't have it installed at the moment. If you can wait, I'll reinstall it around wednesday and explore. If you're in a bigger hurry, post a description (or screenshots) of the settings and I'll probably spot what setting I used.

Out of curiousity, have you tried WMP? It looks like you have mp4s, which are often h264, no? The interface sucks, but the performance doesn't. And yes, welcome to the club!

So somewhere recently I read that the TP2 chipset CAN in fact hardware accelerate xvid, just not while it is inside an .avi container. Previously, I believed it could only hardware accelerate h264 content. I then read you can move an xvid avi into an mp4 container without re-encoding it (and thereby losing video quality). I never made it any further than that, but I've been meaning to follow up.

This is mostly a post to remind me to figure out how to move things, because while I was unwilling to reencode my library, I don't really have an issue with using an mpeg4 container with the same xvid encoding. Heck, I barely understand what a container is or why it matters, and I'm certainly not attached to avi. However, if someone knows what software to use off the top of their head, any help would be appreciated.
