Default Tracking Android 2.2 (Froyo) rollout for Nexus One

Decided it would be nice to have one thread to track this for the Nexus One... info has been posted in several Headline News threads, but I have trouble finding all of them. I intend this for Nexus One only since different models will have different rollout schedules.

Others can do differently, but I am going to focus on official release as I am one of those that is not about to root, cook my ROM or try unofficial versions. My Nexus One is fine with 2.1. I can wait.

The story so far (at least from my understanding):

Google announced Android 2.2 last week at the Google I/O developers conference and said it would be coming in the next few weeks.

Then, it appeared OTA on some reviewers' Nexus Ones. Folks got excited, but this turned out to be a limited release just for the press.

XDA types of course, got their hands on it and figured out how to create a downloadable unofficial update that only works on T-Mo versions of the Nexus One.

    Latest News:

    See HERE

Upshot: When asked by someone at XDA, Google employee said downloadable version is not official update.

Official update is coming to everyone OTA.

You will get official update OTA whether you installed unofficial version or not. Unofficial update does not void warranty.

Implication: They are making some small changes to the 2.2 update still.

No official date has yet been released but you should get an automatic notification when it is ready.

Please add any further news you get to this thread.

Well, news on this has been pretty sparse so far. Just today, on the Google Nexus One help forums, a Google emploee posted this:

    Hi everyone,

I feel your anxiety, and though I'd love to give you all a definitive date, that's not possible, because there is no date. What I mean is, it's not that there's a Froyo release ready to go, and we're holding it back, or waiting for the right time to release it. That's not how it works. Software development is an iterative process, and each release candidate goes through extensive testing. Sometimes, the testing exposes issues introduced in the new version, and the release gets delayed as a result. And so, although we know that we are pretty close to having a final build, we won't be sure of the release date until it arrives, and at that point the release goes out to the public without any further delay. It's a bit like a baby -- the delivery date is a best guess, but if the baby has other ideas, we all have to wait ...

So when's it going to be released?
Pain or damage or despair or even beatings don\'t end the world.
The world ends when you\'re dead.
Until then you\'re got more punishment in store.
Stand it like a man, and give some back.

When it's ready. Some indications it could be this week, but nothing confirmable.

I'd just as soon they take the time to get it right and not push it out before it's ready. I'm perfectly happy with 2.1.
