Unhappy Ipaq 110 won't charge but does connect?

I searched the forum but did not see a specific answer to this problem. My HP Ipaq 110 stopped charging via the USB cord. Strangely, it does still connect to the PC, i can activesync, etc. Interestingly it does not lose charge while connected. Just no increase in battery.

I have tried everything except a hard reset. I am trying to avoid that because there is no backup solution to restore all my settings, etc. I personally think this totally sucks and can't understand why microsoft took this away.

So if anyone has any ideas what I can try to get this charging again, or possibly a good free backup utility (for more than just contacts, etc), I would really appreciate it! Thanks.

    Try this:

Settings | System | Power | USB Charging tab | click Use USB Charging

If it's on and still not charging, I don't know what to tell you.

Maybe your battery is worn out?

I have 2 batteries and neither works. The amber charging light should come on when it is plugged in, but does not.

Do you have a wall charger? Does it work?

Have you tried a different USB cable.

If it is the cable, the solution is simple. If nothing charges the Ipaq, you are probably looking at a major repair.

also, is this the same computer, and USB port, where charging via USB cable used to work? the port itself can be a factor, if it doesn't provide enough amperage (milliamps) for the Ipaq; if it is the same port you've used before, with success, then I have no other ideas.

Thanks for the responses. I received a wall charger today and was hopeful that would work... no luck. Guess the only option is an external battery charger or try to fix the ipaq, which I doubt would be worth it...

Thanks for all the help and ideas, much appreciated!

if it was me...I'd take a look at the unlikely possibility of a software conflict on the Ipaq itself, by first doing a total backup (your method of choice; I really don't know WinMo that well, so as to make a suggestion), and then performing a hard reset. heck, it is possible that the battery *is* charging, but the software isn't showing it. at this point, that really seems a fairly easy thing to do, assuming, of course, that you are confident you can do a full restore after the hard reset.

    good luck!

Have you tried pim backup? A little dated program but backups most all your settings (and can even backup your programs directory - though you might need to re-install).

As a general note, if you are going to use the IPAQ 110, get used to hard-resetting. I have a directory on my SD card with all my programs, and can reload everything in about 15 minutes. Usually a weekly adventure.

Well - I did, back when my unit was working. Now that it has completely decided to stop charging, I've instead repurposed it as a paper-weight.

    Good luck.
