I note that none of the simulated images on the screen have "simluated images" disclaimers...wasn't a certain Finnish phonemaker recently crucified for that?

Seriously, though, BB10 looks like it has promise. If WP8 wasn't around, I'd probably be holding out for BB10. Maybe I just like underdogs, but I like what I've seen of the interface and RIM has generally put out good hardware.

I'm not a BB aficionado; but the QWERTY model seems unappealing. I'm also surprised there is no slider model (a la Torch), which seems to be more popular amongst the BB users I know.

That video and pics has been said by those in the know, as fake. I hope so, straight keyboard top as opposed to curved, and no trackpad. That trackpad is imminently useful to us BB aficionados. Best way in the world to insert a cursor in text.

I agree that the BB vertical slider is a winner. You get a full-sized screen plus the real keyboard. Never had a model with a trackpad but mine had the ball. Some people had trouble with those but mine is in a drawer here and still working perfectly well. It was a peerless messaging device and a well above average phone as well.

I really think the usual BB virtues will be a killer combination IF they can get plenty of good apps. People may not need 10% of them but seem to be impressed with gobs of available apps, even if a significant percent of them are junk. Nevertheless, if they can do the same things most other smartphones do plus all the old good stuff, I wouldn't hesitate to get another one.

Go RIM, I read somewhere their stock prices jumped up a bit as well, must be a while since that's happened.

LS, I agree Apps are an issue. My father, who's hardly an app-hound, is finding himself a bit frustrated by the lack of even some basic apps he'd like. And I don't think he'd much like either one of those prototypes shown above.

Sounds like your father and I would get along well. We are probably around the same age LOL.

Actually, the trackpad is 10 times more sensitive and fluid than the trackball. I've had 2 BB's with trackballs, and wore them out. Never had a problem with the 2 BB's I had with trackpad. I have heard of them wearing out the "clicker" but never experienced that myself.

It sounds like it works great. I just never had a chance to try one out.
