Default Samsung Details Smartphones Set to Receive Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) Upgrade Discussion

While there are already some Samsung smartphones that operate on Android 4.1 such as the Galaxy Nexus, Samsung's move to update the Galaxy S III truly marks the beginning for Android 4.1.

As far as an official upgrade, yes. However, if you want an unofficial one, I'd keep an eye on some of the hacking sites. They often create ports for devices which are otherwise ignored by the manufacturers. Something as popular as the Galaxy S, even though it's very old by smartphone standards, might get an unofficial upgrade.

However, I'd also urge you to think long and hard before you actually DID an upgrade. The benefits can sometimes be less than the hassle of adapting. I, for one, just recently chose to hit ignore on the ICS upgrade for my Galaxy Tab 10.1. Why? Because it already works pretty much the way I want it to. I can't see what ICS would really add for me. A few extra apps? Yes. None of which I'm likely to use. A slightly different UI? When I'm already used to the current one. Don't get me wrong, OS upgrades are great, but how you use your device is by far the more important relevant measure.

I guess mine works OK so it might not be worth the bother. I just wish I could ditch all those crapware apps, the more so since Play keeps bugging me to update them. But if I'm too chicken to update the OS, I'm really too chicken to hack the device.

Samsung is getting quicker and quicker at pushing OS versions, HTC not so much, I'm still waiting for a 4.04 update on my new One XL so that I can use my multitasking button as a menu button
