In Response to Apple Maps Poor Performance, Google Reportedly to Offer Alternative Discussion
The new Apple-run Map system in iOS 6 has been offering a great deal of misinformation. In light of this, Google is reportedly developing a Google Maps app for the iOS. The question is; will Apple approve the app?

Of course Apple won't approve this app. It duplicates (non) functionality of an existing Apple app.

Apple approved Google Chrome even though it "duplicates" Safari functionality. They also approved Google's Gmail app even though it "duplicates" some of the Mail app's functionality.
I think it's pretty clear that Apple has finally made the wise choice of toning down (or possibly eliminating) the "duplication" rule.

If I had a farm, I'd be willing to bet the whole thing, that Apple kicks Google Maps to the curb and won't approve this. I'd be beyond shocked if this made it to the app store.

Apple approved the Google YouTube app. Apple has approved other navigation apps that use Google Maps technology. I don't see any reason to believe Apple would refuse the Google Maps app unless it violated the users' privacy (which Google's mapping and other apps have already been caught doing in the past).

Re: In Response to Apple Maps Poor Performance, Google Reportedly to Offer Alternative Discussion
The venom Apple has toward Google, could be cut with a knife it is so thick. They'll let other smaller and much more obscure companies on there, even if they use components of Google API's, but I simply cannot see them letting Google have Google Maps on their device, especially since they went so far as to intentionally kick it out for their own map software.
Youtube, simply isn't the same category. Apple simply said we don't want to have to make this app anymore, and said Google can do it. The Apple Youtube app was a pitiful excuse for an app, and fairly neglected. Apple can't even begin to compete in this arena. Can you see AppleTube making it? Apple knows it can't, and thus this comparison is a moot point in my opinion.
Now time will surely tell... I may lose my imaginary farm, but I'd bet that I won't, and I'll double my farm.Current Device: Samsung Galaxy Note II - Rooted Stock ROM

hc, I hope that you lose your farm
because Google Maps come back. The new Maps app is fugly. I haven't gotten into using the functionality of routing yet but at first look, comparing it to the Maps app on my iPhone 4, the basic maps themselves are very minimal. Ugh.
My hope is if enough folks raise a big enough ruckus, Google Maps will be let back into the fold.

[insert jingoistic comment about Nokia Maps here]
In all seriousness, Apple had better allow the Google Maps app. My mother (an Apple loyalist in general) is refusing to upgrade her iPad 3 to iOS 6 and refusing to buy an iPhone 5 until she can get Google maps on the devices.Samsung Galaxy S III (U.S. Cellular, unrooted, Launcher8). My review.

Re: In Response to Apple Maps Poor Performance, Google Reportedly to Offer Alternative Discussion
I beg of you to question Apple's logic for possibly (your hopes thus far) allowing Google Maps back onto their device. Stop and think about how counter-intuitive it would be. Even though it is reportedly a very sub-par app, it is still an app that Apple proudly proclaims as their own, and a key new feature of iOS6. How would opening the door to their direct competitor (whom they want to see out of business - Steve Jobs) be beneficial? Benefit you the end user? They aren't in it for the end user, this is for their pocketbooks. If it happens to benefit you, the end user, then you've been blessed. This is all about stopping the bleeding of Apple money to Google. They'll be hell bent on keeping you running on their Maps app, even if it is terrible. I'm quite sure they can find ways of monetizing their maps app. Apple isn't in the business of making the right decisions for the consumer, they're in the business of making the right decisions to put money in their pocketbooks.
Now, keep in mind. Every company is doing this to some extent. You have to make money somehow. But anyone that turns a blind eye to Apple's past actions (which you can't deny, have been quite heavy handed), and expects something different...Current Device: Samsung Galaxy Note II - Rooted Stock ROM

Steve Jobs declared thermonuclear war against Android, not against Google as a whole. What's the default internet search engine in Safari? I'll give you a hint...it isn't Bing.
Apple doesn't lose any money if iPhone users use Google Maps on their iPhone, so I don't see why it's bad for Apple to let them do so.Samsung Galaxy S III (U.S. Cellular, unrooted, Launcher8). My review.
