Do Not Buy an iPhone! Discussion
Here's a piece of advice you won't hear very often: don't buy a smartphone from Apple. If you do, you'll be cheating yourself.

Re: Do Not Buy an iPhone! Discussion
Even though this news is pretty widely disseminated, you can bet there will be those on general interest sites complaining that they bought an iPhone in the next month or so, because they 'didn't know' the new one was coming out (even if the news in on local TV news and national news broadcasts).

Funny, I've been saying that since they first came out.

Whats worse, is people buying new accessories for their old iPhone, when the newer one is widely speculated to have a new connector! They better hope some nice adapters come out, if they upgrade.

Re: Do Not Buy an iPhone! Discussion
For that reason I'm going to upgrade from my 3GS to 4S 64GB when 5 is released and old models are sold out cheap. Then I'll hold on to that phone for as long as necessary. I have no interest in going to replace my stuff, starting from my clock radio to my car stereo...
Adapters suck and as my work phone it's just for calls and playing music in my car. For actual smartphone use, I have my trusty old HTC.

You should keep in mind that as soon as the new iPhone is announced/released, the price on the previous model will drop but so will the GB size available. 32 GB & 64 GB have no longer been available in previous models under these circumstances and I don't anticipate this time being any different.

I'm not going to grab a new one, there's always people who want the latest and are selling their old one at a significant loss when they upgrade. New unlocked 64GB 4S is currently over 900€ and I'm planning to pay a fraction of that for one still in warranty. Just like I did when I got my current 3GS

Re: Do Not Buy an iPhone! Discussion
When i first read the thread title, i thought there is something wrong about the iPhone that i should know. The title of the article fooled me.
It is purely common sense to wait for the next iPhone to release when the release date is so near.

Re: Do Not Buy an iPhone! Discussion
Welcome to Brighthand, theraven146!
I agree it's common sense, but a lot of smartphone customers don't know about Apple's upcoming announcement and nobody in the Apple store is going to try to chase you away if you go in today to pick up an iPhone 4S nor is anyone at a Verizon, At&t, Sprint or other carrier store about to tell you to come back in 3 weeks when they could have your money today.
Some years ago, I bought a Macbook 2 weeks before a major refresh. I (somewhat) happily paid restocking to get the newer model because the cost of the upgrades would have been far more than the restocking fee. Ever since then I've learned to spend some time doing research before I buy a tech gadget.
Then there is always the issue of my timing is more important than Apple's timing. My wife walked up to me last fall, a couple of weeks before the iPhone 4S announcement and announced that she had finally had it with her LG ENV3 piece of crap Verizon feature phone. Verizon's answer was to get a new phone with a new contract and she had had enough. So rather than ask her to wait a few weeks for the new model and possibly change her mind, we went straight to the Apple store and got her a 16 GB 4S and each of the kids a 3GS (for $50 when they would become free a few weeks later).
The kids whine and whine about not having front-facing cameras but they don't whine nearly as much about their 3GS phones as they whined about the LG feature phones they once had. I wanted an iPhone in 2007 but waited until 2010. What I had was a string of "loser" phones including my robust but crippled Treo 650, to a Treo 755 that was a piece of Verizon tampered junk, to a Blackberry 8830 that was reliable but had less usable memory than the Treo 650 and needed to be reset almost daily. When my VZW contract finally ran out, I jumped ship to At&t mere months before Verizon offered an iPhone. I suppose I could have waited but in hindsight I wish I'd jumped sooner. The way I see it, even last year's iPhone is better than any feature phone so if it's a choice between walking around with a messed up phone for many more months and getting an iPhone on the last day before a new model comes out, by all means get the iPhone!-Jeff
