Default Adobe Flash Player: Good Riddance Discussion

Android smartphone or tablet users can no longer install Adobe Flash Player. Adobe gave up on this software for a very good reason: it was terrible.

While the number of HTML5 websites have grown, there are still too many Flash powered websites (CNN for one). Also, the Flash APK for Android isn't hard to find, since its already loose in the public.

Some mobile websites that I have experienced to be using HTML5 video (playable with Google Chrome on Jellybean, both of whom doesn't support Flash).

I'll be sticking with my Gingerbread device for a good while just due to this. Sorry, HTML5 is nice and all that, but until the websites actually start using it, I'm not going to ditch Flash. Far too much content out there in Flash, and even with the 'fruit' banning it over 2 years ago, not much has changed. I don't see future changes, as traditional computers still will have Flash, and thus websites won't be motivated to change anything.

An additional lack of motivation to adopt HTML5 is that content companies DON'T WANT you to use their website. They want you to use their app and pay a subscription. Detecting sneaky mobile web usage is a cat and mouse game they'd just as soon play less.

I hate flash, but 1) it isn't so demanding that it could never possibly run on mobile, that's absurd, and 2) it's still everywhere. Stop telling me I'm better off having nothing for years while waiting endlessly for HTML5 adoption and start telling sites to actually adopt html5. Preach at them, not me. It probably won't do any good in either direction, but hey, why not try directing the editorial instruction towards someone who actually has the power to improve things?

Thankfully, you can in fact still install flash. Sadly, it won't be further improved, and there is definitely room for improvement.
I, for one, welcome our feline overlords.

Again, I can understand not developing it further; but why take it away entirely? I don't understand that logic.

The other thing I don't get is why Flash for the computer (windows) seems to get worse in every iteration, not better. I used to be a defender of Flash. It always worked well. I never had problems. Now, it's a disaster.

Also, does this mean that browsers like Dolphin won't play Flash anymore, or was Flash part of the browser app itself.

Dolphin doesn't include Flash, you have to add Flash separately.

Part of the reason on desktop Flash crashes is with Chrome. Chrome has a built in Flash but if there is an external Flash installed the conflict forces a crash. Lately though I am no longer encountering this and so it seemed Chrome has it licked with later versions of the browser.
