Default AT&T's HTC One X Price Drops 50% Discussion

The AT&T version of HTC's flagship device just became much more affordable. The One X, previously selling for $200 with a two-year contract, is now going for half that.

Clearly the best Android value on AT&T now.

But what I don't get is why HTC doesn't sell the One X on most carriers. Samsung has the right approach with the Galaxy S III. Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, even US Cellular...no matter who you're with, you can get the phone without switching carriers. If HTC wants to sell more One X's, making it an option for non-AT&T people seems like a better step to me than making it a cheaper choice for AT&T customers (and not available to anyone else).
Samsung Galaxy S III (U.S. Cellular, unrooted, Launcher8). My review.
Sony VAIO Duo 11 (i3-3217U, 11.6" 1080p IPS, N-Trig stylus, Windows 8). My video review; handwriting test.
    Sony VAIO F2390X (i7-2670QM, 540M, 16.4" 1080p, Windows 7 Pro). My video review.

HTC has seemed to have that problem for a long time, and it's part of why they're losing. Yes, they got away with that sort of thing before, producing customized models for each carrier, but that was another era. Even if all other things were equal between HTC and Samsung in terms of muscle, efficiency of scale, etcetera, Samsung would still be doing better because they can produce a single model with only minor changes from one carrier to another; basically swapping out the bands and the software.
