Ping, Apple's Social-Networking Service, Is On Its Way Out Discussion
If I said "Ping" to you, would you immediately think of a social-networking service that's tied to iTunes? The answer appears to be "no", as Apple is reportedly getting ready to close the doors on Ping from lack of interest.

I didn't even notice it when using iTunes.
I read somewhere Samsung was thinking of doing their own social networking thing as well, wonder if that will suffer the same fate.
I love seeing one small victory for decentralization winning out in these days of everything being obsessively tied to a platform, even if I don't use the feature.LG Nexus 4

nuvi 765t, iPhone 5, Still waiting on BB10 phones to review. Primarily Mac focused, only using my PC's when dragged kicking and screaming.

Technically I have an active Ping account, but I will not miss it.
The fact is that Ping has had a computer meaning since 1983, and anytime someone tries to "re-appropriate" the term to mean something else (which I have experienced a couple of times lately), it just sounds wrong to me.
It's sort of like when they launched a telecom brand called "KGB" - I was like, "Really?"
