Goodbye Android Market, Hello Google Play Discussion
Google has changed the name of its app store. What was once the Android Market for the last several years has been re-branded "Google Play". This move is apparently being made to emphasize that it offers more than just content for Android smartphones.

They've just changed the name, implemented a new terms of services agreement which you have to agree to, otherwise you can no longer use the market application which came with your three day old android device....it's a very Google thing to do.

Not to be a wet towel or such, but... That's been my take on smartphones for the past few years - They're amusement devices. Distractions. Playthings in lieu of actually doing anyting productive. Naming a provider's market to sound like a fast-food joint playground seems perfectly reasonable, to me.

Somedays it's not even worth chewing through the restraints...
I should only have to LET the technology work for me. If I have to MAKE the technology work for me, it's not a tool - It's a boat anchor. And I've got better things to do than manage boat anchors, especially if I don't have a boat.

Re: Goodbye Android Market, Hello Google Play Discussion
I hear this comment fairly frequently. I suspect if someone pulled all the productivity features out of these people's smartphones they'd be surprised how much they miss them. Just as a start, they'd lose the calendar, to-do list, and work email. No more work phone calls, either.
If anyone's answer to this is, "I don't use most of those functions" my answer is that you should -- you're apparently ignoring half the capabilities of your device.
And as devices get larger they are getting more useful. A phone with a display close to 5-inches can be used for tasks beyond something below 4-inches.
