Re: Apple Making OS X More Like iOS Discussion
At least it will be better than Metro on a windows PC, not that that's saying much.....a few popular iOS features added with some gesticulating on touchpads for those who find using something like a mouse not awkward enough for their particular tastes is hardly a quantum shift to "looking and feeling" like iOS

Re: Apple Making OS X More Like iOS Discussion
I'm a little bit upset that I can't run ML on my Macbook. I mean the thing is only 4 years old! What's going on here! So today I started quietly looking at refurb 13 in MBP models in Apple's online store so I can move to ML when it comes out (if I want).
That whole gatekeeper thing bothers me. My app gets double shut out. It would never make it in the app store because it requires root access and now it won't make it as a certificate app unless I shell $99 out to join the dev program... so I can give away apps. Hmmm....
Apple sold 150+ million iOS devices in 2011 alone. They sold 130 million Macs in 30 years. Who can blame them for focusing on iOS and trying to make OSX look more like iOS?-Jeff

Re: Apple Making OS X More Like iOS Discussion
I agree that it's echoing MS's move to integrate Metro and Win8. I won't say copying, its just the way things are moving.
In fact, it was forecast quite a few months ago by the head of Google - who I believe is still making most of their revenue on ads on desktops. He said that he foresaw the majority of development would now be in the mobile sector.
That said, in my household, desktops will never die. Both my boys (20 & 25 years) are gamers, and the desktop hardware is so superior to anything else.
There are gamer laptops, sure, for about 5 times the price.
But my boys also both have monitors over 21", and multi-speaker sound systems. I think the price advantage for desktops will always be there.
Oddly, my wife and I have laptops, and I'm the only one who really uses a smartphone. *I'm* going mobile, and welcome it.

I wouldn't say copying either; since Apple signalled this move about 2 years ago as best as I can recall. I think around the time the first iPad came out. the 'Magic Touch' touchpad also was a move in that direction to allow multi-touch gestures and such for all their computers (not just laptops).
