A few weeks ago, AT&T committed to offering the Samsung Galaxy Note later this month. For those who can't wait to get their hands on this cross-over smartphone/tablet, they can put in a pre-order from AT&T right now.

I went over to Best Buy yesterday afternoon and pre-ordered a Note. Best Buy is offering a free flip-cover. I plan to use the Note as a quasi-tablet to accompany my employer provided DINC2.

Does anyone know about video-out on the Note? I looked around briefly and didn't see anything on whether it had a dedicated video-out port or that bizarre setup on the Galaxy Nexus?

I love the stylus with its 'shift' function that Samsung is opening up to developers. We could see all kinds of stylus-based apps.

I'm quite intrigued.

Unfortunately it appears that like all of Samsung's other models, they chose the bizarre MHL link. It's one of the few design decisions of Samsung's that I really hate due to the awkwardness of the system.

If you watch Samsung's Super Bowl ad, you'll see that in addition to advertising the Galaxy Note, it also takes a number of shots at Apple:



As we saw yesterday, these two are now the biggest smartphone makers in the world by a considerable margin, so it's not surprising that Samsung is taking potshots at its top rival.

Samsung is unquestionably the *biggest* smartphone maker ever, and likely will stay that way for some time. ; )

It needs a dongle adapter--which doesn't come with most of Samsung's phones--plus an HDMI cable, plus a power supply to plug into the dongle, plus a micro-USB cable to connect the power supply TO the dongle. So it's a lot of annoyingly inconvenient stuff to wire up, much more so than, say, a single micro-HDMI cable the way you can with Motorola's devices.

Wow, kind of crazy. I don't think I've ever heard of a dongle that couldn't pull it's own power.
Not a deal breaker for me, but not being "full featured", which they seem to be trying to be otherwise.

I'm not sure if it CAN'T pull it's own power, or it WON'T, but either way the result is the same, it won't run without external power. So you have to plan on carrying around a bunch of parts and cables, instead of just one cable.
