webOS Fate Still Up in the Air Discussion
HP's new CEO held a meeting yesterday with company employees -- many formerly from Palm, Inc. -- in which she said HP might hold onto the webOS, rather than sell it off.

I noticed that Rim was among the "lookers." Interesting. I've never tried webOS, but it seems to get pretty good reviews, and its real. BBX is kinda vaporware at present.

I don't think they even have to do a lot with it. They wouldn't earn much by selling it, and only create the possibility of creating a monster (slim chance but possible) to compete with them. It's a bit like trading Pedro Martinez.

Re: webOS Fate Still Up in the Air Discussion
webOS is just a great OS, it really is disappointed that it's lagged so far behind at this point. Basiclly everyone has a new OS now, with RIM being the furthest away, but QNX certainly being a solid base and shipping on products as well)
One hope is an OEM picks up webOS, HTC sells a few smart phone like devices, but without an advanced OS, perhaps webOS could attempted to fill that space, with a minimal app store. Sure it wouldn't compete with Android or iOS, but I'd consider a webOS device for a back up device with HTC's hardware. And if they sold very well, HTC would focus more R&D on it
Sony buying out Ericsson means they are likely looking for a new direction, and while Android has been good to them, if they want to be a big player, webOS might be a move they want to make(their admitted their internal software is lacking)
Honestly, I'd be happy to see HP deal with it's mistakes and get webOS back out there. Focus on a tablet, and while rumors are suggesting the phone market is a more developed space then HP wants to enter into, I think a mobile OS needs some type of smartphone, just to have the whole package. Release the Pre 3, review seem to say thats a good device, and then start working on a thinner tablets with the software working from day one and focus on a new phone for a few months down the road.
I could have loved to see Nokia have bought out Palm for webOS, now that would be a device I would be ALL over. Great hardware and great software.
I wish

Its insane for HP to be considering turning around at this point and using WebOS on tablets. They have gone another Christmas without anything on shelves and will have lost the momentum created by their fire sale.
It's unfortunate, since WebOS is clearly my favorite mobile OS. I would buy the next tablet, but not enough people would do so to make HP money.
