Arrow Monsoon Multimedia Vulkano Flow Review: Take Your TV Everywhere Discussion

There are multiple options to allow you to watch movies and TV programs  on your smartphone or tablet, but one of my favorites is the Vulkano Flow from Monsoon Multimedia. This is a hardware/software combo that allows you to view anything that you could watch at home on your mobile device, wherever you are in the world.

Vulkano LogoIt's a great solution for frequent travelers who get tired of the poor selection of cable channels  in hotel rooms. It can also be used to watch TV during lunch hour, catch sports games when on the go, or any time there's a show you don't want to miss but you can't be near a TV.

The Vulkano Flow itself costs $100, the Android app costs $12.99, and the iPhone/iPad app is also $12.99. There is no monthly service cost.

The built-in WiFi is great. It never made sense that devices like these didn't do that, since almost everyone needed either a 'game hub,' dongle, or one of the converters for WiFi over electric lines to make these useful.

I'm disappointed that the Android software seems less capable (no recording, lower res); given that Androids often have bigger screens (but less res. for the moment). And the extra fee for the handheld use is nickel-and-diming. I mean, yes, you can use it on a laptop or something; but most want the mobile function. Build in the cost, and Slingbox's $30 fee is ridiculous.

I was describing these to someone very recently, since he has all the sports packages to watch his favorite out-of-town teams but can't always watch on his device. I told him, with a one time purchase, he can leverage his expensive cable sports packages with more usage through a device like this.
