While the TabPhone name doesn't roll off the tongue, this is definitely another phone in that category. And you kind of buried the lede (in the 4th paragraph, nothing in the title). A smartphone with stylus silo?! Hello 2006, we've missed you. I've actually started using my stylus more since booting android, though I can't quite put my finger on why that is.
I, for one, welcome our feline overlords.

There's a short marketing clip on YouTube:

Introducing Samsung Galaxy Note - YouTube

I am kind of interested this now. Based on the press release it looks like it will support AT&T frequencies and I've been looking for something to use on my ATT plan since sacrificing my HD2 to Poseidon.
    AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note (fun)

    HTC Droid Incredible 2 (work)

    Everything old is new again.

While I understand that people are beginning to use these devices more as mobile computers and less as phones, I really think they shouldn't shortchange the basic phone functionality.

I mean, who has a smartphone with voice features they can actually brag about? Clarity, volume and the ability to hold onto a signal are sadly lacking these days.

And in a related note, I guess we now know why we never got the Galaxy Player.

I guess we'll see if this fares better than the Dell Streak.

Stylus is most helpful especially for Asian users.

Actually when it comes to clarity, volume and signal, my HTC and Samsung smartphones are doing this very well compared to my experiences of featurephones. The speakers though, need to be loosened up with some use and time before they reach their optimal sound performance. The Motorola smartphones are regarded as the best when it comes to signal and voice.

The 5" Galaxy Player is being sold in some countries like Russia. There is another wifi only device called the Galaxy Wifi that was also introduced.

All the Galaxy s2 type phones (the Note being a variation) has been quad 3G GSM, so 850 3G is not unexpected.

See, Jobs is retired and already the first handheld device with a stylus is on the way hopefully it has an accurate sensor and a point on the stylus, nothing but the same pixel accuracy that my winmo devices have will suffice

I particularly like the 16:10 aspect which will make it more useful as a note taker, I would prefer a smaller 4.3" model, and perhaps a not so high resolution, depending on what it ends up performing like, but think this is one of the more exciting developments in a mundane world of sameness based on iPhone principals.

All we need now is for one of the platforms/OEM's to start manufacturing devices with actual buttons, imagine that, why didn't someone think of using clicky hardware buttons before.....

Forget it! Don't even get started. Buttons are passe.

Might as well ask for a dial rotor.

    what's wrong with dial rotors

Actually I'm surprised with the love of smearing finger goop all over screens, that no one has thought of putting an onscreen rotary dialer on there....more movement to achieve the same thing....swiping and sliding motion....yep, fit's perfectly with the modern UI ethos
