Default ASUS Reveals Padfone Tablet/ Smartphone Combo at Computex Discussion

One of ASUS' big announcements at the Computex 2011 tradeshow this week came in the form of the Padfone, a hybrid concept device that will fuse smartphones and tablets in an effort to capitalize on the strengths of both forms of technology.

I'm afraid so. Logic has never been an impediment to corporate greed.

I'm glad to see that this general idea has sparked some interest. Again, it will come to naught if the carriers don't see the light.

I hope that if they pursue it, Asus sells the thing directly instead of through carriers.

That housing idea is OK but I hope they develop the pad as a generic device capable of housing any one of several devices. It would be really cool if the pad connects with the device by USB and the "hole" is big enough to handle the normal range of device sizes. An app on the phone could handle connection duties.

Not that it was a huge leap; but I saw this coming and posted in the Atrix thread about it. I think it's a great idea, with the caveat Radon mentions. As long as data is so expensive and so restricted, it doesn't make as much sense. But I think I'd be very happy having the option of a larger screen as a pad over even the lapdock idea.
