The Sidekick data service is going to be shut down in a few months, converting these smartphones into simple dumbphones. As compensation, T-Mobile is offering users of these devices 50% off the price of some models made by Samsung.

No surprise that Samsung wants to "takeover" the Sidekick franchise. Irony though, the great success of Samsung's own featurephones comes from slider qwertys mostly.

Doesn't this seem like a pretty weak offer when compared to the free smart phones they offered in February? After all, they're leaving their customers in the lurch, without much notice. Moving them over to a smart phone would seem like a reasonable option.
