Common use for a mobile is on a table/desk as a notification screen. For a touchscreen device, to have the screen tilted towards you when the screen needs your attention is a best use and smart design.

Remember, mobile phones had replaced media terminals, alarm clocks, and work as one of the many screens we interact with. There is room for several form factors, such as this.

Depending on the applications and user, the G2 takes tis usage model and makes it possible to have a situation with your screens and apps where you can have something that's this status/notification screen, that works at a glance or touch easily.
If your smartphone is so smart, then why are you spending so much time learning it? Shouldn't it learn you and adapt to your leanings?

Now that I have more usage with this, I can say that in my case I am having no trouble with the hinge. It only opens when I want it to. There are small magnets that hold it open and closed,as opposed to their being a "click" in the hinge. For this reason, I don't think it is something that will loosen over time.

The G2's display can not be tilted up like a little laptop. Open or closed, the screen and keyboard are always parallel to each other.

Examined a Desire Z lately, and I don't see the Z hinge to be a problem. Fantastic looking phone.

I guess my line of work makes me hypercritical about durability. Truth be told, I have had a cell phone and/or PDA for (ahem! mumble).....years now and have never broken one.

I did leave one phone in my pants and ran it through the wash, but that could happen to anybody.

I dropped one in the toilet once. Proof that there are some places you shouldn't multitask. :-)

Got the international equivalent, the Desire Z. The phone is truly a class act.
