Default TabletPCReview Gets Some Hands-on Time with the Samsung Galaxy Tab Discussion

The Samsung Galaxy Tab was officially unveiled at the IFA tradeshow in Berlin yesterday, where Dragan Petric from Brighthand's sister site TabletPCReview got a chance to test out this upcoming Android OS tablet with a 7-inch display.

Lol. Ed, the link on the page you send us to takes you to a report on a tech show in NY in 2003 With Andrew asking people about Axims and the New T3.

Kidding about link redirections aside, this looks sweet. Can't wait to hear more. I'm thinking 7" might just be a sweet spot.

It's interesting to me that you say this, because I have a very different opinion. To me, once a device is too big to fit in a pocket, I want as big a screen as I can get. That's why the 10-inch tablets are my favorites.

I've also talked about this with Jen Edwards, and she's in your camp. She likes the idea of a tablet that's about the size of a hardback book.

p.s. I fixed the bad link a couple of hours ago. Sorry about that.

I'm with you Ed, I don't see 7" as being in most users' sweet spots. But of course, that's why we have horse races.

I want a 4-5 inch smartphone/PDA screen and a slate/tablet about the size of a notebook sheet of paper or even better, in the Euro A4 size (narrower with a 1.78:1 aspect ratio screen or similar).

I think 5" or so is about as much as anyone would accept as a phone. But I guess it doesn't hurt for them to launch this thing and see what happens.

It's not a phone, it's a tablet like the iPad. It has 3G, not voice, unless I missed something somewhere.

The Galaxy Tab is definitely a tablet. But I'm still curious, can you tell us why you prefer a 7-inch tablet over a 10-inch one?

I agree, it's a tablet. But according to Petric's report, It can be used to make phone calls via a cellular network.

Hey, it's bound to be lighter than a bag phone.

You misread what I said (and/or I wasn't clear). I said it *might* be a (not "the") sweet spot. I don't actually know what I think of either size as I haven't had either size tablet in my hands. It occurred to me that 7" might be a nice one-handed size and a little easier to handle on a crowded commuter train and to carry around to meetings.

Heavy lifting for me is still going to be done on a full-size laptop.

I meant to mention this before. What do people think about Sony's decision to issue new e-readers in 5, 6, and 7 inch sizes? Isn't that a pretty tight 'pack' of sizes? No 5, 7.5, 10" or something like that?
