Arrow Motorola Droid 2 First-look Review Discussion

The Motorola Droid 2, recently launched by Verizon Wireless, is the followup to the original Droid smartphone.

Google Android OSIt runs Android OS 2.2 a 1 GHz OMAP 3600 series processor, and has 8 GB of storage, a microSD card slot that supports capacities up to 32 GB, and a 3.7-inch touchscreen display.

The Droid 2 is now available from Verizon Wireless for $200 with a new two-year service contract.

I've had this smartphone for only a couple of days, but that's long enough to form some preliminary impressions. I'll write a full review when I've had more time with this device.

Looking forward to the full review. I would check with Verizon on both the connectivity problems --that does not seem normal-- and the hotspot feature --are you sure Verizon hasn't restricted it?

I'm a bit disappointed, and sadly, I expected to be. Why take all the trouble to update this phone relatively quickly (6 months or so, right?) and not fix the keyboard even more. Yes they got rid of the D-pad; but as I suspected from photos, the keys are still flat, indistinct, and (probably) with little travel even by smartphone standards. Yes, I know they upgraded the processor, etc.; but the keyboard seemed to be one of the biggest complaints.

One question. The top picture in the review shows a notable 'chin.' I thought the D2 had re-centered the screen evenly over the keyboard and dispensed with having an exposed edge or 'chin?'

I don't have the experience you do; but I have a friend who got a Droid the first day it was available and I have to say, the one thing it does well is voice quality. I'd rate it above a B in my book. Maybe A-, B+ if grading very severely.

I have and love the original Droid but I would not upgrade to the "D2".
The keyboard is not as flat as some say, at least to me. Why not pay HTC to make their Tilt 2 keyboard a bit flatter and you'd be golden? I mean Damn Moto! You've heard this criticism for a while now, you went part of the way, why not a sweet keyboard?

I was one of those people that had to have a hardware keyboard but I'm getting fairly good with Swype. Maybe I don't need a physical keyboard?

Frankly I'd upgrade to the Incredible in a blink. The X is huge! I have big hands and it's huge.

I gotta say I was underwhelmed with the D2 it did seem slow in the store.
I opened the browsers in each (My D1 running 2.2 Froyo) tried to hit them at the same time and they were very close it didn't really impress. WTF? My friends Inc. blew me away! Both on Froyo too?

Pain or damage or despair or even beatings don\'t end the world.
The world ends when you\'re dead.
Until then you\'re got more punishment in store.
Stand it like a man, and give some back.
