    They do seem random.

Over the years--and three PDAs--I have purchased upgrades to versions 5, 7 and 9. I never bought 10, but did receive an e-mail about this "last chance" offer to upgrade to 11. Since my TX has been gathering dust lately, I deleted the e-mail, so I can't say what price I was offered. Very strange.

I got no upgrade offer and I've paid over and over again for docs2go on my various Palm pda's. I stopped back at version 9 something. I have docs2go on my Blackberry but I only use it rarely. The built in BB office doc and pdf viewer is adequate for everyday use.

I noticed the Pre will offer a viewer and an option to upgrade to full docs2go. I will probably not get the full version. I have found viewing to be all I really want to do on the tiny screen of a pda or smartphone.

I thought version 6 and version 9 were worth the upgrades. Version 6 added native code formats, version 9 added the file manager interface and better optimized the PDF module.

Let me rephrase. In terms of improved functionality, versions 6 and 9 were good upgrades. Whether they were actually worth what Dataviz charges (normally) for upgrades is a question one has to answer for themselves.

Ditto. I paid for version 9 to get the file manager but after that, I saw no reason to upgrade d2g again.

Is this offer really only for those folks who got D2G pre-installed on the PDA?

Don't know where you got that. That would be true of almost all of us with Palms. Maybe Centro only? (I say that because the two people who claimed have gotten the offer both have Centros. I don't know about Ed.)

I got d2g preinstalled when I upgraded to BB OS 4.5. If I find time, I'll go to dataviz and see if this applies to me. Just tried it and after digging up my registration info (to avoid paying $69.99) it offered to sell it to me for $39.99 but even that offer expires July 1. I think I'll be passing on this.

I don't think those offers ever really expire.

This offer ($7.99) seemed to be public, yet as Ed points out, not everybody received it; it is not announced as due to anybody having a registered license of DTG, though it should; and it doesn't seem to matter whether somebody is a registered DataViz customer; so I guess it has something to do with being a registered DataViz notifications recipient (registered customer or not). I have registered two licenses of DTG over the years; the first, a DTG v.6 Personal Edition; the second, the one that came along with my Treo 680, which was brochured as DTG v.8 Personal, but turned out to be v.8 Professional Edition. For the case somebody doesn't know it, all the DTG licences bundled with a Palm product carry the same S/N. So I actually had to ditch from registerment the previous to register the one with my 680. At this point, this is where I receive the DataViz email with the offer, four times. It seems this offer was only distributed by email, that's why I guess the recipient selection was based on the criteria previously described.

I didn't choose to upgrade, yet I admit it was an excellent offer. The offer doesn't make clear whether the upgrade will turn my Treo 680's DTG installation (v.8) into a DTG v.8 Premium, or it'll jump all the way to v.11 Premium. Next, for all those options spanned (v.8 ~ v.11), the features stated don't really suggest a better DTG performance in my 680. And, as I've been migrating from Microsoft Office to OOo, I don't really need more Office features and enhancements, but a stable performance on the streets, that simple.

A last line: just for the case anybody hasn't noticed, the DataViz site isn't very intuitive. Options I have found in the past are buried in clicks and secondary webpages. The DataViz people need to do some Spring cleanup.
