Default Acer Prepping Smartphone with Large Keyboard

Acer recently promised that it will unveil a new line of smartphones at an event later this month. Some details on one of these have slipped out.

This device will supposedly have a relatively large keyboard, but not in any of the typically arrangements. Instead of being a simple slider, This model will reportedly have an unusual design, with a keyboard that rotates around so that it can be used with the screen in portrait mode.

Exactly how this will work isn't clear, and the picture that was sent to BGR is unusually bad, even for a leaked image (see here).

The source also isn't clear if this model will use Windows Mobile or Google's Android, but it's almost certainly Windows Mobile. Acer executives have been talking about their company releasing smartphones running Microsoft's mobile operating for many months now.

There's no additional details on this model either, like camera resolution, storage capacity, etc.

The announcement of this model, assuming it's real, will be at the Mobile World Congress tradeshow in Barcelona on Feb. 16.

That rotating keyboard, in the fashion suggested by that supposed-to-be leak of the new Palm device, last Dec & Jan? Seems like, in the picture linked to.
