When Microsoft released Windows Vista earlier this year, it replaced ActiveSync with a new mobile device synchronization application called the Windows Mobile Device Center.
Despite the name change, this application still performs the same tasks as ActiveSync always did. At the same time, though, its look and feel have been updated.
All Vista users with a device running Windows Mobile 2003 or later must use this application to synchronize data with a PC. ActiveSync should not be installed on any computer running Vista.
At the same time, the Windows Mobile Device Center should not be installed on any Windows XP or earlier PC.

Re: Microsoft Releases Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1
In theory, if you've told your Vista PC to keep itself automatically updated then you should get this without having to manually download and install it. But if you want to make sure, or you want to have it right now, you could get it yourself immediately.

Re: Microsoft Releases Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1
Thanks Ed.
My download and install of this update went without a hitch except for one thing. My synch kept ending in error. In spite of the specific install directions to the contrary, I had to restart Vista and now all is well!
Now all I am waiting for is the next cool WM 6 device to be released.
Come on AT&T, bring on the HTC Touch ASAP!
or:
Come on Palm, bring on the new Treo 750 WM 6 OS upgrade or even better, bring on the WM 6 Treo 850 (GSM/UMTS, 320x320, Wi-Fi) ASAP.
All will then be Brighthand-held nirvana! (at least for 6 more months anyway)

One correction to the above specs wish list. (GSM/HSDPA) rather than (GSM/UMTS).
