The Latest Rumors of the Apple iPhone

For those who are still looking for more evidence that Apple, Inc. will soon begin offering a device that combines the features of a phone and an iPod, Engadget points out that the new iTunes 7.0.1 update is full of references to such a device.

A typical example is: "4301.022" = " ^0 was not copied because the video format is not supported by the mobile phone ^1".

Coming to Cingular?

According to the latest rumors, Cingular Wireless will be the first carrier to offer the iPhone.

The announcement of this device is reportedly going to happen at the MacWorld Expo in early January.

Rumored Specifications

Citing sources supposedly familiar with Apple plans, Think Secret is reporting that the iPhone will have a features like a 3.0-megapixel camera and a 2.2-inch display.

Plus, to no one's surprise, this device is expected to have full support for the iTunes music service. In addition, unlike the Motorola ROKR (a device with limited support for iTunes), the number of songs that can be stored on Apple's own phone will reportedly be limited only by its storage capacity.

Reportedly, this will be just the first of a series of iPod/phone combos that Apple will launch in 2007.

None of the rumors so far say anything about what the first iPhone will cost.

If past history is any judge, they will look wonderful, have very intuitive user interfaces, have at least one really annoying feature, and be priced 25-50% above what you really want to pay.

Not that I have a strong opinion about Apple...
