Apple iPhone Coming in January?

For months now, there have been persistent rumors that Apple is about to introduce a device that combines the features of a phone and an iPod. Almost all of these rumors comes with a date when this device will debut. And, so far at least, these dates have come and gone without the predicted announcement.

The latest beginning of this cycle has been started by Think Secret, which recently said that the first iPod/phone combo will debut at the MacWorld Expo in January.

According to this site's report, the delays so far have been caused by Apple's difficulties "in its attempts to essentially re-invent the cell phone with an innovative ground-up design".

Citing sources supposedly familiar with Apple plans, Think Secret is reporting that the iPhone will have a features like a 3.0-megapixel camera and a 2.2-inch display.

Plus, to no one's surprise, this device will supposedly have full support for the iTunes music service. In addition, unlike the Motorola ROKR (a device with limited support for iTunes), the number of songs that can be stored on Apple's own phone will reportedly be limited only by its storage capacity.

Reportedly, this will be just the first of a series of iPod/phone combos that Apple will launch in 2007.

This rumor doesn't say anything about what the first iPhone will cost.

The Apple PDA rumors over the last 4 years were just as these seem to be, very reliable sources.

Many new phones are iPod compatible MP3 players, maybe these got confused with a non-existent Apple device.

If all the iphone is going to be is a rebranded piece of crap that is already out there, Apple might as well forget about anyone caring, except for the intirial press they will get.

I doubt they will re-brand an existing product. More than likely they've bought pieces of the design from various companies, similar to the way they bought the ipod interface from another company, and now they're working on how to make the pieces look pretty together.

IF the iphone happens it will require quite the marketing push....I think if we don't see an iphone, we'll probably see either all moto phones or more phones than just moto sporting the itunes on a phone dealie...

I have heard from many of the blogs that it resembles a Sony-E 800 series cellphone that is already on the market, or is waiting to be released.

I would hope apple had its OWN os, or a skinned S60 or something unique. Sure, Sony or Nokia or Moto would make it, or whomever, but if it dosnt havfe that apple personality, there is no point.

Apple would be better off sticking to a connected PDA with iSee, Isight .cam or whatever else they are famous for. Something like the Mylo, but specifically their own. Most people have contracts, locked into unupgradable tech because of the contracts - what they need is something with a 3G connection, WiFi and some VOiP app. Your basic PDA tools.. I think a rebranded cellphone, which is essentially what it will be, will tank basically.

I also don't think Apple will tolerate another rebranding(ish) fiasco, as what occurred with the ROKR. Way I hear it, Apple had big plans for the "real" ROKR (the iPhone that should've been) and Moto would have nothing of it.

Apple knows this is what the people want. The ROKR was not successful, I read the Chocolate is absolute crap. The time is ripe for a killer music phone.
