    In a press event yesterday, Samsung officially launched the Q1, its first Ultra Mobile PC. It will cost less than expected, but still more than hoped.

    9x5.5x1 and 1.7 lbs is "ultra mobile"? Um... no.

    Well, that's the definition of "ultra mobile" used by all the new UMPCs. I agree with you, which is--along with price--why I think these things aren't going to be the rousing success some people expect out of them.

    As some have been saying, I do think this is -to some extent- the future of portable computing. I just think they need to include more powerful specs, a physical folding or slideout keyboard and a pricetag under $1000.

    Naturally, the smaller the better, but at these dimensions I think they're closer to the 'mark' in terms of handheld or portable 'real computer' than some of the other features.

    edit: And what's the big deal about 'instant media on' when this device doesn't have an integrated optic drive?
