That certainly rules out alot of devices that can't get WM10.
I guess its just more bullying to get people to buy new devices.

[Optimism]Well all is not lost until Toshiba officially says they won't provide either a ROM update or an OS upgrade in the future.[/Optimism]
I know what MS says about having their hands tied by the OEMs. Since they cannot force them to offer upgrades.
But part of me thinks that the WM architecture was done this way on purpose to give OEMs incentive to make devices in the first place. While the platform is in its infancy make it so that the profit margin is reasonable. Push people to continually buy new devices.
But hopefully as the industry matures (relatively speaking) and the major players are established, then MS can change the architecture to a more software oriented distribution. Being able to offer upgrades directly with only the core/kernel distribution in the hands of the OEMs.
Just a thought.

According to Marcus Perryman, a Microsoft Developer Evangelist, the team working on the next version of Windows Mobile is working "to separate the upgrade mechanism for bits that Microsoft owns from the bits that the OEM owns. This should mean that Microsoft can offer things like Media Player 10 updates directly from the Microsoft site."Originally posted by sojourner753
