While VoWLAN is going to be a nice technology to have, what will make it truly useful is when roaming agreements are established among hotspot and hotzone providers. Only Wayport (and to a lesser extent GRIC and iPass) seems to be actively pursuing roaming, while others are simply saying what we want to hear but doing little.

On top of roaming among hotspots, it will be important to be able to bridge WANs and WLANs, so that handoffs are smooth and we are automatically switched to Wi-Fi when we come within range of a hotspot. A few companies are working on this capability, but nothing is available yet.

Finally, I tend to dismiss the suggestion that Toshiba will offer a VGA display on a PDA this year, because Microsoft's Pocket PC OS only supports 240x320 displays and it will likely be at least next summer before this changes. Besides, when Microsoft has provided OS upgrades, Toshiba has failed to support them. For that reason, I will wait for similar products from HP or Dell.

Excellent. The rumored 10/22 release date may be correct. Hopefully the specs are as good as first hoped. I don't want to be forced to buy a Zodiac 2 to satisfy my need for new hardware.

This thing is sounding better and better, while others that I'd wanted to compare it with, the Mio 558 and the JVC, are not. I would really want to see what "inexpensive" service is going to cost. I guess we'll see at the end of the month.

Anyone hear more about this model? I've been scouring the net daily, but I haven't seen anything.
