Arrow RumorMill?: Toshiba e805 Will Have VGA Screen

A picture and some additional information has surfaced about an upcoming Toshiba model, including that it will supposedly have a 640-by-480 pixel screen.

Read more about this model, and see the picture, at http://www.brighthand.com/article/Ru...ave_VGA_Screen

i have highly dislike toshiba;s handhelds so far, but if it does have a vga screen i might have to switch over, those specs are mouth watering, the uber ppc, hopefully it'll look a lot different from the other toshibas

Finally something other than cookie-cutter PPCs.

Wow!!!! Despite Toshiba's poor upgrade record, this device is keeping me leaning strongly toward Toshiba for my next PDA. I thought Toshiba not bringing the Genio C, with 4" screen, 128mb RAM, and built-in digital camera was a bummer, but looks like e805 will be almost equivalent if the rumors are true. 4" screen, USB host, added RAM, VGA resolution... and at price LOWER than the original e750 or the iPaq 5550... sign me up!

What do they mean by "pixel doubling"? Is this some type of software emulaton of 480x640 rez or does really have that many pixels?

Great specs -- everything I was hoping the 2200 and 4000 series iPAQs would be except apparently no flip cover. Too bad it's a Toshiba.
Current: HP iPAQ 2210 + Panasonic 512MB SD.
    Previous: None.

If the spec is correct on 480X640, pixel doubling is for every pixel, it will take 4 pixel, 2 hortizonal and 2 vertical (2X2) to display the current software correctly. The reason they did this is that most software are design to be 240X320.

I'm not buying this story. The exact same stories floated around when Toshiba released the first 4 inch screen Genio. HP would never let Toshiba do this first. IF it were possible, in any way within the PPC lisence HP would have done it by now. What would have stopped them? They have shown they have the guts to charge $750 for an Ipaq.

Nope, I'll believe VGA on a PPC when I see it. Not that I wouldn't be happy to see it and not that I think it wouldn't sell well, but if it were possible, HP would have had it done June 23. In fact, we didn't even get screen rotation in the OS on June 23, and without that, what good is this screen. It would take rewrites of the OS in both res and rotation to be worthwhile.

No way the 805 uses the V100 chipset and runs at 300MHz. At that resolution on a 4" screen it would choke. I bet it has the 3200 and runs at 400MHz.

My thoughts exactly. I've heard the story as VGA capable (and I still don't entirely believe that). Something in this rumor smells like last weeks laundry.

I could be wrong, but I'm guessing it's just another boring hardware design from a PPC manufaturer.
