    Arrow Patience or Pre-Order?

Patience is a virtue, or so the saying goes. Try telling that to a group of handheld enthusiasts just days before the release of the new iPAQs.

I remember that m505 fiasco. There were a lot of hacked off customers over that one. That's one of the reasons why I will never preorder (the other being that I prefer to buy my PDA's in a real store, rather than online). I intend to have a 5555 as soon as I can get my hands on one, but it will be when they get into my local stores.

I think its really funny how otherwise sane and intellegent people have worked themselves up in a lather for these new PPCs PPC 2003 OS. Some of these people have the latest and greatest pda's currently and they want the next gen. My 1910 has suited me very well and I have no plans for a new pda.

PPC 2003 is the same situation, so far information that has leaked out means that this is a minor update focusing on wireless technology. The interface has not been updated nor has pocket word/excel (at least by the preliminary reports).

This feeding frenzy is not isolated to the PPC world go over to the palm forum and see the frenzy over the T|T2 which appears to be a very minor update to the current T|T.

If your current Pda suits your needs why plunk down more money for the latest and greatest that may have bugs. I'll be waiting to see these people who jumped on the bandwagon so fast start whining that there new pda's have issues - because the leaped before they looked.

Nice try Steve. We know you are trying to minimize the order competition so you can get yours!

    Unhappy Torn between two platforms...

I'm at more of a crossroads in trying to decide which platform to buy. On one hand, I am really interested in the upcoming (rumored) Tungsten T2 to replace my Zire 71. I love the Zire, but it just isn't quite the device for me. A TT with Transflective display, 32MB RAM and faster processor would be right up my alley.

On the other hand, there are several very compelling new Pocket PCs coming out in just another week or so. Honestly, I am getting tired of the Axim's bulky design, so a smaller form factor and built-in wireless are enticing to me. And pricing is very competitive as well (iPaq 1940 with built-in BT for $299, for example).

I'm really not sure which direction to turn.

    Default Personally, I'd never preorder

Because the UI, the ergonomics, the size and the weight are so important, I would never preorder a handheld on review and specs alone. I always go to the local electronics store to check out the latest units, then return home and hunt down the cheapest price on the web. That way, I know exactly what I'm getting.

Steve and I are trying as hard as we can to get the new models ASAP. They should give you impatient buyers some idea of whether these new handhelds live up to your expectations before you have to slap down your hard-earned cash.

That would be much appreciated, Ed. I hate making a purchase decision without facts or early impressions first.
