Default HP Introducing Two New iPAQs Next Week

HP has leaked details on two new handhelds to be released next week, a mid-range model and a high-end one. The mid-range model will face some tough competition.

    Thumbs down

HP is never going to get back its marketshare from Sony with these products, that's for sure.

    Default Pocket PCs Priced Right

If you're a fan of the Pocket PC OS but have been put off by the typical $500 price of a PDA based on it, your patience has paid off. Three manufacturers?Dell, HP, and ViewSonic?have delivered Pocket PC 2002 models with color screens and price tags under $300.

We reviewed late pre-production versions and find they each provide a lot for the money. Sure, you give up some added software and system memory versus the more expensive models, and you won't find BUILT-IN WIRELESS connectivity or lots of ADD-ONS, but all in all, you won't miss much when you see the extra money in your wallet.

    Default Hey! HP!

You know that thing you used to have on the side of the Jornada and COmpaq didn't put on the ipaq because of the sleeve. It would be a REALLY BLEEDING GREAT IDEA if you'd put it back on handhelds that don't use the stupid sleeve.

And give us our flipcover back as well, dangnabbit.

Wonder what the 3950 and 3970 prices will be reduced to, and when?

I've been wondering why HP hasn't slashed prices by now in order to make a quick grab for marketshare. Looks like they intend to milk iPaq buyers for all their worth. Sleazy.

Default I don't agree that the low-end Ipaq can compete

The 1910 doesn't work with older (current sleeves) for me that's a big deal. I want the longer life battery (as well as one that has integrated bluetooth and WiFi) and a unit that doesn't force me to rebuy new sleeves.

That is important. The pricetag. Well, you just wait until January/February when after christmas sales and discounts happen.

    But, that's my .02.

Do you have a URL for this? I haven't seen any indication that it uses sleeves at all...

Default Yes, why, yes I do have a link to that article

Was where I read the cnet article about the older sleeves working on the new model 5450 but not on the 1910.

Precisely. This is supposed to be a complete departure from the legacy iPaq form factor. HP is making a mistake by even naming it iPaq, IMO.
